About FLCAction, Inc.

FLCAction, Inc. is the 501(c)(4) organization related to Florida Citizens Alliance (FLCA), our 501(c)(3). Both are non-profit legal entities. Here is information which explains the “Who”, “What”, and “Why” of Florida Citizens Alliance.

The 501(c) section under the Internal Revenue Service guidelines and regulations is designed for non-profit organizations. The differences between a 501(c)(3) and a 501(c)(4) are slight, but important for supporters to understand.

A 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) are both tax-exempt organizations and do not have to pay taxes on the money donated to the organization, but only the donations provided to a 501(c)(3) are tax-deductible for the donors. Donations to a 501(c)(4) are not tax-deductible.

Florida Citizens’ Alliance (FLCA) is a grass roots alliance of individuals and groups providing common sense solutions for K-12 education in Florida. Our primary mission is to inform people about the current state of Florida’s K-12 education system and share ideas for improvement. As a 501(c)(3) we can do very limited legislative issue advocacy. As a 501(c)(4), FLCAction, Inc. can do up to 50% legislative advocacy and political activity. This will allow us additional flexibility.

To be clear, neither organization can endorse candidates or tell voters to “Vote For” or “Vote Against” candidates or ballot issues. However, the 501(c)(4) will allow us the flexibility to provide voter guides and do more extensive legislative advocacy.
